Fortunately, you do not have to spend money on the salon treatments and creams. You just need everything that is present in your kitchen to cure that tan.
I know these home remedies pretty well because I have used these remedies myself and can tell you they are phenomenal given some time.
Therefore, here are 10 simple DIY remedies to get rid of sun tan at home using the most common ingredients that can be found near you.
☀️ 1. Lemon Juice and Honey

This is an oldie and it works.
How to use:
- Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to 1 tablespoon of honey.
- Use it on tanned surface.
- Allow it to rest 15 20 minutes.
- Wash in lukewarm water.
The reason why it works:
Honey has the effect of moisturizing and healing the skin, whilst lemon is a natural bleach.
⚠️ Do not use on broken skin and very sensitive skin this can be painful.
🍅 2. Tomato Pulp
Tomato not only in your curry but also on your skin too !
How to use:
- Use pulp of fresh tomatoes.
- Use it on the face, arms or any part where they have exposed tan.
- Let it stand 20 minutes.
- Wash under cold water.

It also possesses lycopene that works lightening tan and neutralizing the skin complexion.
💡 And I myself use it two times per week it adds visible glow as well.
🍯 3. Curd and Turmeric
This is one of those desi remedies that I witnessed as a child as my mother put them on before festivals.
How to use:
- Take 2 tablespoons of curd and add a pinch of turmerictick to it.
- Apply on the areas involved.
- Keep it to rest 15-20 minutes.
- Rinse it lightly.
The reason it works:
Curd not only moisturises the skin but it also cools it. Turmeric helps in healing.
🍋 4. Gram Flour (Besan) and Lemon Pack
It is one of the staple dishes in Indian residential kitchens, not only on Haldi events!
How to use:
- In a mixing bowl, combine 2tbsp gram flour and 1tbsp lemon juice + some water/curd.
- Use it as face pack.
- Leave till it is semi-dry.
- Clean with water and do not use hard scrubbing.
The reason it works:
It sheds off of dead cells and takes off the boring tan.
🌿 5. Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe vera Vera, when in doubt!
Methods of use:
- Obtain fresh aloe vera gel (or commercial, in case the gel is 100 per cent).
- apply it liberally on the tanned parts.
- Overnight leave or 30 minutes.
- Rinse in cold water.
The thing is that it is easy to slide in during unscheduled trips.
It relieves sunburn, lightens tanning and moisturizes the skin.
💡 I use it on a nightly basis during summer. It relaxes the skin immediately.
🥒 6. Cucumber Juice
This one is very excellent particularly when your skin becomes hot and itchy when it is exposed to the sun.
How to work?
- Peel a cucumber and get the juice.
- Put with a cotton ball on the tanned region.
- Leave it 15 20 minutes.
- Rinse very lightly.
The reason why it works:
Cucumber has cooling action on the skin, anti-inflammatory and sun damage reducing abilities.
🍌 7. Banana and Milk Mask
Best suited to dry tan skin- the combination is both moisturising and brightening.
How to use:
- Mash in half a banana, which is not the most ripe.
- Put in 1 tablespoon fresh milk.
- Apply by mixing.
- After 15-20 minutes it should be washed.
Reason it works:
Banana feeds the skin and milk is a mild exfoliator that brightens tan.
🌼 8. Potato Juice
This might seem odd, but it has the effect of working so well!
Usage:
- Scrape a raw potato and get the juice out of this.
- Apply it on the tanned the area.
- After 20 minutes of leave wash it.
Why does it work:
Potato possesses slight bleaching effect and lightens darkness.
Awesome to use on underarms as well as feet!
🌸 9. Multani Mitti (Fuller's Earth) and Rose Water Pack
An soothing and refreshing pack, which is the blessing to oily skinned persons.
Usage information:
- Combine the multi-mitti with rose water, and you can form a paste with 2 tablespoons of multani mitti.
- Use either as a face or body pack.
- Leave it a few moments to dry, and rinse in cold water.
The reasons why this works:
It also takes away surface tan; it absorbs excess oil and sooths the skin.
🥭 10. Papaya and Honey Mask
An edible treat to your skin!
How to use:
- To a small number of pieces of ripe papaya, mash up a little.
- Put 1 teaspoon honey and stir.
- Place on the paste and allow to rest 20 minutes.
- Wash on tepid water.
The reason it works:
Papaya has the enzyme effect where dead skin cells are exfoliated and honey has the effect of moisturizing.
💡 This one smells great that you would apply it with pleasure!
Final Thoughts
Tanning is normal and more so in a country like ours that is sunny. But careful treatment and frequent use of home remedies, the skin can be brought back naturally with a beautiful shine.
